My adult male ball python is going threw another of his fasts. He only does this about once a year but I was curious what other snake mamma's do. How often do you offer a meal? Do you handle your snake during this time? How long do you wait before you start to worry?
I hope you all and all your snakey babies are well,
Mandy

Re: Ball pythons... *sigh*
Sun, August 2, 2009 - 4:32 AMWow! Still off feed, is it warm enough in it's enclosure?
My two are eating like crazy right now to make up for what they lost. How long has it been off feed and what do you feed? Rats, Mice, Live, pre kill, ft? -

Re: Ball pythons... *sigh*
Sun, August 2, 2009 - 1:39 PMHe's only been off for about 6 weeks. He skipped his winter fast so his scheduling is all off. I'm not too worried about him. He hasn't lost any weight and doesn't act agitated (or as close as he ever gets, he's very mellow) I'm going to add another small daytime spotlight just in case but I think that will only prove to make him more active at night. Unless he's fasting like he is now he eats one medium F/T rat every week to two weeks. -

Re: Ball pythons... *sigh*
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 8:22 PMMy adult BP's go off feed for as long as 5-6 months. They do not need anything more than natural light or normal daytime light. I don't have any direct light on mine. You must learn patience with BP's you cannot force them to eat, they will in their own good time.
And If he's has only been off six weeks well you might have to wait a while longer. Just be sure he has plenty of clean water and a humidity box for a good shed when he comes off feed. -
