"I know I'm gorgeous..."

OK, so I had to soak Dexter last night to finish off a bad shed (even with the humidity box, my apartment gets so dry that he has a hard time sometimes). Anyway, after he soaked and I massaged the rest of the loose skin off him, we were hanging out in my bathroom with the heater on (the only way I can take him out in the winter since my apartment is a giant icebox (especially this year).

Anyway, Dexter really seemed interested in the mirror. Kept going back to it, sniffing it....it LOOKED like he was looking in it.

Now, I know BPs are nearsighted and go by scent and heat signature a lot. But when he gets nose-to-nose with his reflection like that, can he "see" the other snake in the mirror? Is he checking out the competitor or possible friend? Trying to figure out why the other snake has no scent? Does he know his own reflection?

Or is he just investigating a smooth cool surface wondering what it is?

I wish I had my camera in there with me, because it really looked like he was admiring himself after a shed and telling the world "Yep! That's right! I'm gorgeous!"

Ha! Both of my BPs do this on the big mirror I have in my living room, as do two of my boas and the milksnake! Wonder if the cornsnake would????

Seriously. It was like he just knew he was the most gorgeous thing in the world. Every little bit, he'd turn back, look at me, then go back to the mirror. I swear he was saying "Do you see this? Do you see how handsome I am? Bring on the girls!"

So if other snakes do it too.....maybe they CAN see the snake in the glass?

That's something I meant to ask. I know BPs are nearsighted. Are ALL snakes nearsighted or JUST BPs?
