I have been dancing for about a year, and in the recent months introduced my lovely BP ladies to the stage. I have had great success with them and seem to be getting more and more jobs. I was for the first time out of my almost 8 snake performances asked to produce performance insurance for my snakes. I of course didn't have any and was told that my event (hours before I was suppose to go on) was caceled. Does anyone know of any such insurance or have it themselves. Should I get any specific insurance since the girls are now a huge part of my performance? Again this is the first club out of 8 that has asked for it.

Re: snake performance insurance?!
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 7:51 PMYou might look and/or speak to someone involved with something like a Circus or any other venue where they have so-called "dangerous" animals.
Also speak to insurance agents about "Public Liability Insurance for Performers".
I'm half awake at the moment, so I'm not doing an extensive web search, but that is basically what you would be looking for. Same thing people who dance or juggle with fire might be required to obtain (Hmmm.....speak to the people on the bellydance props tribe?).....
Despite the fact that we know our babies are sweet and gentle, it probably isn't a bad idea to have something like this in case you run into that fruitloop who touches when told not to.....or "claims" they were harmed....(heck, I work for lawyers.....there are people who would CLAIM they were harmed merely by the presence of the snakes because of their so-called phobia).....
One word of advice though.....(and I'm hoping maybe there is a snake dancer out there who is or knows an attorney or two)....when you find a policy, don't just immediately sign. Read the fine print! Just make sure that, if something DOES happen and the insurance company has to pay someone, they can't require you to have your snake put to sleep or something like that. Probably not a likely clause, but it's still something to watch out for. Better safe than sorry. -

Re: snake performance insurance?!
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 8:10 PMOK, so I spend way way too much time on the Internet....
I have been trying to find a place that will offer coverage in the US (actually pretty easy to find in Australia....)
I am not sure if this place covers the US....but from what I'm seeing, they do cover people who perform with animals....and it looks like they offer annual coverage OR coverage for one specific event.
www.csicoverage.com
Hope this helps. Dex and I don't dance in public yet, but someday this may be something we'll have to investigate too.

Re: snake performance insurance?!
Sat, August 4, 2007 - 12:51 AMOne suggestion guys...my dad is an insurance salesman (property not animals or people). He told me to NOT tell my home insurance guy about my snake....some insurance companies will charge you more or even drop you due to owning a 'dangerous' animal.
So when you go to do this...make sure to use another insurance company than you homeowners so that it does not overlap!!
Not sure where you would get this type of insurance but I would suggest not asking your homeowners insurance person about this. A friend of mine here was answering the updated survey about any changes and one question led to her having a snake....she was dropped a week later from the company and had to find another home owner insurance.
Silly but not everyone understands....
